Ramadan at Masjid AlSalam

ANNOUNCEMENT

Khatam-ul-Quran & Fundraiser will be held after Isha on Friday, April 29th, the 29th night of Ramadan.


Assalamu Alaykum.

The Houston Moon Sighting Committee, which includes Imams and Scholars of various Islamic Centers and Organizations in the Houston area, have collectively declared that Saturday, April 2nd, will be the first day of Ramadan!

RAMADAN MUBARAK to everyone in the Masjid AlSalam community and across Houston, and to Muslims all over the world on the beginning of this month of mercy and bounty from Allah SWT.

Here is a list of the various Ramadan related programs and activities taking place at Masjid AlSalam this year, along with some rules and guidelines to adhere to.


Charity & Fundraising

Rules and Guidelines

Please adhere to the following rules when visiting the masjid this Ramadan – following these are essential for all attendees for a safe and tranquil experience at our masjid.

  • No food is allowed in any of the prayer areas inside the masjid. Food should be consumed outside the masjid building or in the gym and must be properly disposed off.
  • Security guards will be present both inside and outside the building. Everyone is expected to follow the instructions provided by the security guards. If there are any complaints please do not directly engage with the security staff, rather bring it to the attention of any administration member, or post your comment on the Masjid’ s website.
  • Drive SLOW within the masjid parking lot. There are children walking or playing in the parking lot at times (sometimes against rules) and they MUST BE PROTECTED.
  • Parents are requested to keep their children with them AT ALL TIMES. Please do not let them wander around by themselves.
  • In case of an emergency please follow the instructions provided by administration and the security staff.

COVID PRECAUTIONS

  • Wearing masks is optional.
  • People that wish to keep social distancing during prayers are requested to pray in the rear of their prayer area.
  • People that are ill or in any vulnerable health condition are requested to not attend in person. Many events at the masjid will be Livestreamed for those that want to attend remotely.


Programs and Events

General Programs

  • Quran Competition.
  • An online quiz will be published every day and a prize will be given to the winner. Details to be published soon.
  • Riyadh-us-Saleheen lecture each Sunday after Fajr by Shaikh Mamdouh.
  • Jummah prayers for men will be held in the Multi-purpose hall (gym) during Ramadan.

Taraweh & Khaterah

  • There will be daily Taraweeh and Khaterah after Isha.
  • Isha iqama will be at 9:15 pm until April 14th, and at 9:30 pm from April 15th onwards..
  • Taraweh will be led by Shaikh Mamdouh, Shaikh Farooqui, Hafiz Safee, and Hafiz Rayyan.
  • Khateera will be delivered for 10 minutes after four Taraweeh by Shaikh Mamdouh every day.
  • Men will pray Taraweeh in the men’s prayer hall downstairs as well as in the overflow areas generally used during Friday prayers.
  • Please note that babysitting services are NOT available this year.
  • Sisters arrangements:
    • Main prayer hall upstairs is designated for sister with kids 7 years and older.
    • Downstairs sisters prayer hall designated for seniors and handicapped only.
    • Only Rooms 212 and 214 will be used for sisters with children under 7 year old.
    • The verandah to the right of the upstairs prayer hall reserved for overflow.

Taraweh Recitation Schedule


Iftaar

There will be Iftaar available for the community on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the first two weeks in Ramadan, and then every day for the rest of the month.

If you are interested in sponsoring an Iftaar at the masjid, please choose a day to sponsor by signing up on the sign-up sheet available outside the men’s prayer hall, or Email or Phone Br. Saif Usmani with your requested date.

DONATE ANY AMOUNT TOWARDS IFTAAR EXPENSES:

  • You may choose to sponsor a partial Iftaar meal with a donation of any amount. Recommended amount is $500.

IFTAAR LOGISTICS:

  • Iftaar will be served in the Masjid’s multi-purpose Hall (gym).
  • Everyone who attends an Iftaar meal is humbly requested to clean after themselves – please ensure any food that is left after the meal is properly disposed of.


E’itikaf

E’itikaf will start after Asr on the 20th night of Ramadan. All Mutakefeen need to review the rules for E’itikaf and register using the form provided below.


Tahajjud

Tahajjud during Ramadan is planned in the last ten nights of Ramadan.

  • Shaikh Mamdouh will lead the prayers on odd nights.
  • Schedule: 3:30 am – 4:15 am.
  • Masjid entrance gate will remain closed due to security. Entry will only be possible by using the RFID cards issued by the masjid. If you wish to get an RFID card please email the masjid administrator at [email protected].


Eid

  • There will be three Eid prayers held at our masjid InShaAllah.
  • Prayer will start at 7:10 am, 8:30 am, and 10:00 am.
  • Please carpool to avoid congestion in entering and exiting the masjid.
